Hector Navarro
Héctor Navarro, born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, in 1937, is a prominent figure in contemporary Mexican art. He studied at the School of Visual Arts and the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Guadalajara (UdeG), where he also taught for more than three decades in subjects such as Visual Education, Visual Arts, and Painting Workshop.
With over 60 years of experience, Navarro has developed a unique style that fuses architectural precision with the expressive possibilities of lyrical, figurative, and geometric abstraction. His works are characterized by the use of vibrant colors, complex textures, and a harmonious balance between form and content.
Among his accolades are the Extraordinary Prize in Visual Arts attached to the Jalisco Prize, the First Prize in Drawing at the October Salon and the Jalisco Prize in Visual Arts, all in 1990. He was also awarded the Pedro Sarquís Merrewe Foundation Prize, AC and, in 2005, he obtained First Place in the “Atanasio Monroy” Painting Prize.
His work has been exhibited in important museums and art collections, including the University Museum of Contemporary Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the José Luis Cuevas Museum, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Panama and the Museum of the Arts (MUSA).
In 2022, MUSA presented the exhibition “Secret Anthology”, a retrospective exhibition of 70 unpublished pieces that reflect Navarro's artistic evolution and his ability to explore new forms and nuances in contemporary painting.
